ePropulsion I-series inboard Electric Motors

The evolution of ePropulsion electric engines continues with their award-winning inboard motors that are reassuringly far more reliable than combustion motors, far cheaper to run and own, and silent in operation.

“The ePropulsion I-Series electric inboard motors offer a range of power inputs and can be easily connected to a shaft drive propeller. These smart intelligent inboards include ePropulsion’s ADAS (Advance Drive Assistance System) that enhances safety and intuitive driving. In addition, a proprietary integrated Connectivity Service and Boating IoT enables owners to remotely access onboard data from anywhere.”

IoT – the Internet of Things – describes the network of physical objects – “things” – that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. When applied to boating, it can be used to generate sailing logs, highlight irregularities and monitor performance such as geo‑location, battery power and speed.

So if you remove the hype and the marketing speak what we actually have is a far more reliable engine which:

  • Costs less to run and maintain
  • Lasts longer due to less moving parts
  • Has no fuel issues such as diesel bug and E10 ethanol soaking up water
  • Is less liable to engine failure because it has far less to go wrong
  • Typically weighs 65% less and takes up 60% less space than an equivalent combustion engine
  • Are designed to connect to an existing drive shaft making them quick and easy to install

In summary, you get an engine from the market leader in marine electric engines with ease of use and amazing total cost of ownership.

I-Series ePropulsion inboard motors are suitable for a range of boats, including:

  • Sailing yachts and Catamarans
  • Canal Boats
  • Workboats, Water buses and Ferry boats

Sailing yachts and Catamarans

Most sailing yacht and catamaran owners dislike traditional inboard motors because they are noisy, smelly, require servicing, carry a fuel cost and are susceptible to fuel issues.

All of these dislikes are removed when using an ePropulsion I-series inboard motor. Since the engine is quiet, it can be used in conjunction with sails when the wind is in not in the perfect direction, reducing the need to tack as often.

With built-in hydrogeneration, motors fitted on sailing boats can recharge whilst under sail. The I‑Series electric inboard motors are available in three models; the I-10, I-20 and I-40, with a power input of 10kW, 20kW and 40kW respectively.

Canal Boats

ePropulsion and Ashton Marine Services attend the annual Crick boat show as the desire and need to move to electric engines accelerates.

This is a move by all concerned for cleaner inland waters and to enable users to reduce engine maintenance and servicing costs.

Workboats, Water buses and Ferry boats

This is a growing area for ePropulsion inboard motors that ranges from 10Kw which are suitable for creel boats, fish farm boats, seaweed harvesting boats and the like, to the stunning H100 Kw motor for boats up to 200 tons.

Key advantages for smaller workboats:

  • No fuel issues
  • Greatly reduced servicing ie only the water cooling on some models
  • No storage of petrol/ diesel required
  • Greatly enhanced reliability

Even if your main engine is nearly new and you don’t want to replace it today, ePropulsion have a range of backup solutions to increase your safety when working.  In many cases this backup engine can also be used for close quarter manoeuvring to reduce gearbox problems on the main engine.

Weight saving

The I-Series are typically 65% lighter than a combustion engine and are the lightest of the equivalent electric motors of similar range/input power.

Space saving

The small compact size of each unit takes up 60% less space than a traditional diesel engine.

Easy to install

Designed as ‘plug and play’ units, the I-Series motors are easy to install and connect to an existing shaft drive. All the internal wiring is connected prior to delivery, reducing installation time.
