Fly Fishing review with an electric outboard

This is an independent review of fly fishing on a Coulam boat by a certified instructor

I have been an angler for over sixty years and a professional fly-fishing instructor and guide for twenty-six years. Over a lifetime of fishing I have watched as many new products came into the sport, some crashed and burned and a few stayed around and became successful products. I can say quite unequivocally that the single piece of modern equipment that has helped me catch many more fish is the Epropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus.

This silent electric motor has been a revelation for me from day one of the season. It is incredibly quiet and it has allowed me to creep up on feeding fish without spooking them day after day. It has come in to its own for me on a range of waters including the internationally renowned Lake of Menteith where I have used it extensively on its six hundred acres.

I use this engine as my main source of propulsion and have not yet came close to exhausting the battery on an eight hour session even on windy days. At most I have used around two thirds of the battery which will then easily be recharged in six hours. It stores easily in the boot of my car, clearly does not require petrol so no smell or spillage and it can be carried by one person with ease to the boat. I really like the safety feature that kicks in if you hit a rock as the prop stops automatically and the zero servicing costs.

This season the fish have often been hugging the shore line meaning that those last few casts were very important. Using this engine I know that I can get in a few more casts as the engine will fire into life by turning the throttle without having to pull any cords. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.
